Six go through to national finals

The innovation and dedication of NHS staff and social care workers in the East Midlands is being recognised as six teams head to London to represent the region in the finals of the national Health and Social Care Awards.

The teams successfully won their place in the finals - organised by the Department of Health in partnership with the NHS Institute for Innovation and Improvement – after being  nominated by colleagues and coming top in their categories at the regional ceremony hosted by NHS East Midlands in May.

Following the regional award ceremony the East Midlands winners were selected to be finalists for six of the 14 national categories. The shortlisted teams will attend the award ceremony in London hosted by Andy Burnham, Secretary of State for Health, on 8th July 2009 to find out if they have won.

The six teams going through to the finals are:

  • Shires Health Care, Derbyshire County PCT for the Success in Partnership Working Award

  • Disabled Card Group, Adult Social Services, Nottinghamshire County Council for the People's Award for Dignity and Care

  • Directorate of Estates and Facilities, Nottingham University  Hospitals NHS Trust for the Low Carbon Award

  • Stayput Laundry Identification System, Nottingham City Council for the Innovative Health and Social Care Technology Award

  • Productive Ward Project Team, Nottingham University  Hospitals NHS Trust for the Leadership for Improvement

NHS East Midlands, Director of Patient Care, Dame Catherine Elcoat said: “The Health and Social Care Awards create the opportunity to acknowledge excellence in care and encourage examples of strong partnership working across the public, voluntary, charity and independent sectors.

“The East Midlands has had great success at the awards with six teams going through to the national event and all the finalists should be congratulated.  We will be supporting them all at the national finals and we hope to share the learning from their innovative and creative projects throughout health and social care settings.”
