Three teams from the East Midlands have scooped major national awards as recognition for their innovation and dedication to patient care.
This achievement was announced at the finals of this year’s Health and Social Care Awards yesterday.
The winners were Shires Health Care, at Derbyshire County Primary Care Trust, the Directorate of Estates and Facilities at Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust and Stayput Laundry Identification System, from Nottingham City Council. These successful teams beat off the competition to win in three out of the 14 categories.
The teams were among six projects from the region who had won their places in the finals - organised by the Department of Health in partnership with the NHS Institute for Innovation and Improvement. The winners and finalists got through to the national event after being nominated by colleagues and coming top in their categories at the regional ceremony hosted by NHS East Midlands in May.
The East Midlands finalists attended the awards ceremony in London where it was announced that three of six had won their categories.
The results were as follows:
-
Shires Health Care at Derbyshire County PCT won the Success in Partnership Working Award;
-
Directorate of Estates and Facilities at Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust took the Low Carbon Award;
-
And Stayput Laundry Identification System from Nottingham City Council won the Innovative Health and Social Care Technology Award.

NHS East Midlands, Director of Patient Care, Professor Dame Catherine Elcoat said: “Congratulations to our winners and finalists for getting through to the national finals – it is a fantastic achievement and they overcame very stiff competition. The Health and Social Care Awards are prestigious national awards which create the opportunity to acknowledge excellence in care and encourage examples of strong partnership working across the public, voluntary, charity and independent sectors. We will share the learning from their innovative and creative projects throughout health and social care settings in the East Midlands and are very proud of what they have achieved.”
