The inspirational ideas, innovation and dedication of NHS staff and social care workers in the East Midlands have been recognised as the winners of the region’s Health and Social Care Awards are announced (see list below).
The East Midlands’ nominees for the Health and Social Care awards were put forward by frontline staff in hospitals, primary care, mental health, ambulance services, social care teams and the voluntary sector. Each scheme or individual was nominated as an example of good practice that benefits patients and service users in one of seven categories.
The categories were:
-
Acute Care
-
Support for Independence
-
Excellence in Commissioning
-
Mental Health and Wellbeing
-
Primary Care and Community Based Integration
-
Success in Partnership Working
-
Living the NHS Constitution (regional category only)
The winners were announced last night. They ranged from a re-enablement project in Leicester by the city council and primary care trust that helps patients to retain and regain their independence after hospital discharge, to a newly-created team in Derby that ensures patients on an Older People Ward and Acute Stroke Unit are better supported in their nutrition and hydration.
The regional winners will now be considered for the National Health and Social Care Awards - organised by the Department of Health in partnership with the NHS Institute for Innovation and Improvement. Winners of which will be announced on 18 November.
NHS East Midlands, Chief Executive, Kevin Orford said: “The Health and Social Care Awards are our opportunity to acknowledge excellence in care and encourage examples of strong partnership working between the NHS, local authorities, voluntary, charity and independent sectors. All the nominated teams should be congratulated and we hope to share the learning from their innovative and creative projects across the region and beyond, so that more patients can benefit. We will be cheering our East Midlands awards winners on for the national finals.”
