Dearden Review
NHS East Midlands has today published the independent “Review into the Four Hour Emergency Access Reporting at Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust”.
The report by Dearden Consulting was commissioned by NHS East Midlands after NUH discovered discrepancies in the recording of patient waiting times in the Emergency Department.
The review makes 18 recommendations. It is explicit about the care patients received when attending the Emergency Department, concluding:
“The findings confirm that patient safety was put first and there was no evidence that patient care was compromised and staff ensured patients received appropriate care when it was required.”
Dearden Review Executive Summary, p. 3.
Releasing the review Kevin Orford, the deputy chief executive of NHS East Midlands, said:
“NHS East Midlands takes seriously the recording of Accident and Emergency waiting times however the report by Dearden Consulting makes it clear that patient care and safety was not compromised. The Strategic Health Authority will closely monitor progress at Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust but it is satisfied that the Trust has taken and continues to take the necessary steps to address the recommendations in the report.”
