Finalists for the Health and Social Care Awards announced

The innovation and dedication of NHS staff and social care workers in the East Midlands is being recognised as the shortlisted finalists for the region’s second Health and Social Care Awards are announced (see attached press release below). The event is the centre-piece of a development process which will help others learn from the best.

In the East Midlands Health and Social Care awards, shortlisted finalists were nominated by staff in hospitals, primary care, mental health, ambulance services, social care teams and the voluntary sector. They will hear who has won each of the 13 categories at an evening learning event on 21st May in Leicester. An exhibition area will allow staff to learn from other shortlisted projects and help further improve their services for patients.

The ceremony is one of ten regional award ceremonies taking place across England which are linked to the National Health and Social Care Awards.

The regional winners will automatically be considered for the National Health and Social Care Awards - organised by the Department of Health in partnership with the NHS Institute for Innovation and Improvement – and may be asked to attend the award ceremony in London hosted by the Secretary of State for Health on 8th July 2009.

NHS East Midlands, Director of Patient Care, Dame Catherine Elcoat said: “The Health and Social Care Awards are the opportunity to acknowledge excellence in care and encourage examples of strong partnership working across the voluntary, charity and independent sectors. We are looking forward to recognising the people who make an outstanding contribution in both Health and Social Care.”
