We had an effective planning system which didn't need re-building. But we did need to clarify the roles of those involved in the process, make it more responsive to service changes, explain more clearly how it works and enable effective and timely clinical involvement and scrutiny.
End point:
We need workforce plans based on robust intelligence from clinicians and service managers, with everyone involved in the planning process understanding their role and the timescales involved.
How we got there:
We have produced a comprehensive document which describes and refines the workforce planning process. It clearly outlines who will do what, the priorities for everyone involved and their timescales. This will be used as a process guide going forward for future workforce planning activity.
