Start point:
For the HQW changes to last there needs to be a proper mechanism in place to provide multi-professional advice and scrutiny on our educational investment and workforce plans, and to contribute to and guide the panning process as it proceeds.
End point:
We have created a broad based panel of clinical advisors who will be brought together twice a year to scrutinise workforce and education commissioning plans. This group will consult on key priorities and planning assumptions at the start of the cycle in the early spring, and then be given the opportunity to put the plans to a “feasibility and practicality” test throughout the planning process. They will come together again each spring to start the planning process and each autumn to review the finished plan.
How we got there:
An introductory event in November 2009 was held for representatives of every group with a potential interest in the outcomes of our workforce planning processes. This raised awareness of how the process works and discussed how best to engage clinicians in the planning process in the future. A second event was held in the spring of 2010 to begin the process and its outcomes will guide planning as it happens. This cycle will be repeated annually.
Following our event on 12 March 2010, here are the presentations from Trish Knight - Deputy Director of Workforce, and Anthony Kealy - Improvement and Efficiency Director.
We have also attached the delegate feedback from the event for your reference.
