From Evidence to Excellence

front cover of document

The development of our regional vision in June 2008 brought together a huge number of staff, espeicially clincians, and patients to describe in detail our ambitions for the sorts of services we should deliver.

Uniquely, we undertook the exercise in each of our counties as well as across the region to ensure as many people as possible could participate to influence local services.

The process looked at how we could improve health and healthcare across nine domains of care:

  • Maternity and newborn care
  • Children’s health
  • Planned care
  • Mental health
  • Learning disabilities
  • Staying healthy
  • Long term conditions
  • Acute care
  • End of life care.

It resulted in ambitious plans in each of the five counties to deliver improvements across all domains.  NHS East Midlands assures that those improvements are delivered in each patch through its routine performance management arrangements and huge strides have been made already.

It also identified a number of key areas which needed regional oversight:

      • Major trauma
      • Acute stroke
      • Heart attack
      • Telephone access to urgent care
      • Vascular surgery
      • Neonatal intensive care
      • Paediatrics and paediatric surgery
      • Children’s cancer services
      • Child and adolescent mental health tier 4 services
      • Low secure learning disability services
      • Eating disorders services
      • Mother and baby mental health services

A comprehensive regional work programme is well underway and new plans for comprehensive services which will have a significant impact on quality and access are either already being implemented or now coming up to the consultation stage.
