Requst

To the East MidlandsFreedom of Information Officer

I am writing to make a request for all the information to which I am entitled under the Freedom of Information act. In order to assist you with this request, I am outlining my query as specifically as possible. If however this request is too wide or too unclear, I would be grateful if you could contact me.

The information I am requesting relates to your Strategic Health Authority’s expenditure on medication, therapy and specific intervention services for working age adults with mental health conditions:

2009/10

  • What was your total expenditure on medication for adults with mental health conditions in 2009/10 (and, if available, in 2010/11)?

  • Specifically, how much was spent on antipsychotic drugs?

  • Specifically, how much was spent on drugs for depression?

  • How much was spent on psychological therapy services for adults in 2009/10 (and, if available, in 2010/11)?

  • Specifically, how much was spent on Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)?

  • How much was spent on intervention services for adults in 2009/10 (and, if available, in 2010/11)?

  • Specifically, how much was spent on Assertive Outreach?

  • Specifically, how much was spent on Crisis Resolution / Home Treatment?

  • Specifically, how much was spent on Early Intervention in Psychosis?

2001/02 – 2009/10

  • What was your total expenditure on medication for adults with mental health conditions, per year, from 2001/02 - 2009/10 (or, if available, until 2010/11)?

  • What was the breakdown of expenditure, per year, between medication, therapy and intervention services for adults with mental health conditions?

I understand that under the act, I should be entitled to a response within 20 working days.  I would be grateful if you could confirm in writing that you have received this request.  I look forward to hearing from you.

Our Response

I refer to your email of 19 September 2011 requesting information in respect of mental health.

I can confirm in accordance with S.1 (1) of the Freedom of Information Act 2000 (FOIA) that we do not hold the information that you have requested.

NHS East Midlands’ expenditure in terms of the information you have requested is zero.  We have four main roles: strategic leadership, development, co-ordination and performance assurance. We also ensure that local health systems operate efficiently and effectively and that national policy, standards and priorities are met in order to continually improve services for patients and the local communities we serve.

I am advised that our constituent Primary Care Trusts (PCTs) and hospital Trusts report their spend on medication in their annual reports, but that this might not be broken down by type in any way.

We do not hold the information requested relating to Outreach/Crisis Resolution.  However, our Mental Health Trusts should hold this information.  You would be best placed contacting Mental health trusts separately for the information that you require.  I have attached below a link to our website that will enable you to this.
