Request
Dear FOI Officer,
Please find below a number of Freedom of Information requests relating to NHS awards. I would be grateful if you could reply via email. Please group the requests as one question, or treat separately as you see fit.
1. What awards have been run in your region to recognise achievements within the NHS (either regionally or nationally). I am aware of the Health and Social Care Awards, for example, and wanted to find out if there were any other awards run on an annual or ad hoc basis. For each instance please provide the following details:
a. The name of the award
b. Its stated purpose (i.e. to recognise achievement in innovation or patient care etc)
c. Which institutions are eligible to be considered
d. How long the Award has been in existence
e. What the prizes are (i.e. if there is a cash prize/what categories are awarded)
f. Whether there is an awards ceremony
2. What has been the total cost to your SHA for holding these awards? Please include the costs for each award of advertising, paid time devoted to organising the awards, any awards ceremony costs (such as sending employees to national awards ceremonies), along with any other associated costs. Please indicate whether this cost is borne by your SHA, or if it is reimbursed by another body (such as the Department of Health or a sponsor).
3. Where a regional awards ceremony has taken place, what has been the total cost to yourt SHA for hosting each ceremony for each occasion where records are available? Please include the cost of the venue, food and beverages, audio/visual costs along with any other associated cost - please itemise these costs where possible. If this detail is not available, please just provide the total cost for each ceremony.
4. Where a cash prize has been awarded, please provide the value of the prize (in cash or in kind terms) for each instance where a prize has been awarded where figures are available.
Our Response
I refer to your email requesting information in respect of NHS Awards.
I can confirm in accordance with S.1 (1) of the Freedom of Information Act 2000 (FOIA) that we do hold the information that you have requested part of which can be found in the pdf attachment.
In addition to the above, NHS East Midlands has supported two further innovative projects, which have enabled the development of clinical services for the direct benefit of patients. The two specific awards are:
Medilink
-
The Medilink East Midlands – ‘Partnership with the NHS’ Award recognises partnership working between NHS organisations and industry which has a major impact on improving patient care. NHS organisations and East Midlands companies who have collaborated with them are all eligible to apply for this award. NHS East Midlands provided £4,500 in funding to Optima-Life to improve the health and well-being of patients and staff in the East Midlands by providing a tool to assist exercise prescription. The funding builds on a recent collaboration between Optima-Life and Glenfield Hospital Leicester Cardiology Unit in assisting the evaluation of exercise capacity in chronic heart failure patients.
Da Vinci
-
The Da Vinci Health Technology Innovation Awards - Clinical Impact Award recognises a technology, design or process that has the potential to make a major impact on a critical healthcare issue. NHS East Midlands funded the “clinical impact category” and a total of £10,000 has been provided to a team of Leicester doctors for the adoption and spread of forward thinking clinical practice and increasing quality in healthcare for the population that NHS East Midlands serves.
NHS East Midlands did not incur any charges in terms of hosting the above events.
