Our response

I refer to your email requesting information in respect of the transportation and disposal of health care waste.

I can confirm in accordance with S.1 (1) of the Freedom of Information Act 2000 (FOIA) that we do not hold the information that you have requested.

I should point out to you that our role is to relay and explain national policy, set direction and support and develop all NHS Trust bodies (Primary Care Trusts and NHS Trusts providing acute, mental health and ambulance services).

We ensure that local health systems operate effectively and efficiently for our population of 4.3 million people. This includes making certain that national standards and priorities are met so that the population of the East Midlands is cared for in high quality, safe environments and services are continuously improved and developed. An absolute priority for us is improving health and reducing inequalities.  As such, NHS East Midlands has no direct patient care interaction and therefore, no health care waste requirements.

However, Section 16 of the FOIA places a duty on us to provide help and assistance where necessary.  You should therefore consider contacting NHS East Midlands constituent organisations separately for the information that you require.  The following link to our website will enable you to do this:-

I hope that this information is of use.  If you are dissatisfied with the way in which we have dealt with your request you can ask us to review our decision by writing to:-
