Purchase of Laryngoscopes

Dear Sirs

Below is a freedom of information request to which I require a response from NHS East Midlands:

  1. How many laryngoscopes have been purchased by NHS East Midlands from 1999 to date (annual statistics to be provided)?
  2. How much has NHS East Midlands spent in total on laryngoscopes from 1999 to date (annual statistics to be provided)?
  3. Which brands/models of laryngoscope have been purchased by NHS East Midlands from 1999 to date (annual statistics to be provided)? 
  4. How many of each brand/model of laryngoscope have been purchased by NHS East Midlands from 1999 to date (annual statistics to be provided)?
  5. What was the price of each brand/model of laryngoscope purchased from 1999 to date (annual statistics to be provided)?
  6. What suppliers have supplied laryngoscopes to NHS East Midlands from 1999 to date (annual statistics to be provided)?

If any of the above information is not held by NHS East Midlands, please advise which public body (if any) holds the information requested.

Our Response

I refer to your email concerning the purchase of laryngoscopes.   

I can confirm in accordance with S.1 (1) of the Freedom of Information Act 2000 that we do not hold the information that you have requested. 

NHS East Midlands is a Strategic Health Authority and as such would not purchase any clinical instruments.  Our role is to relay and explain national policy, set direction and support and develop all NHS Trust bodies (Primary Care Trusts and NHS Trusts providing acute, mental health and ambulance services). Any purchase of clinical equipment is carried out by the aforementioned organisations.
