Enquiry Subject: Trauma Rehabilitation
Enquiry Details: We are analysing patient care compared with trauma systems. This will correlate with changes following the implementation of trauma systems being introduced in the U.K.. We have received data from many trauma centres in the U.S.A., South Africa, Australasia and Europe. We therefore require data from the U.K. SHAs and PCTs.
We would therefore be grateful if you could provide us with information (from either yourself and/or PCTs within your geographical area) relating to the following:-
1) The number of patients requiring rehabilition needs annually (for each of the last five years) following major trauma (thoracic, abdominal, neuro, vascular, orthopaedic, ENT, spinal, maxillo-facial, extremity & burns patients);
2) The total cost spent by the SHA/PCTs overall per annum (for each of the last five years) in respect of rehabilitation needs;
3) The total cost for the individual patient with the most expensive needs within the last five years (and total length of stay in rehabilitation). PLEASE NOTE WE ARE NOT SEEKING CONFIDENTIAL PATIENT DATA - MERELY TOTAL LENGTH OF STAY AND TOTALL COST TO SHA/PCTs;
4) Current budgets allocated annually by the SHA/PCTs for rehabilition in respect of patients who have suffered major trauma (for each of the last five years);
5) Total number of patients requiring long term disabiity care in the community following major trauma (in nursing homes, residential homes, specialist care facilities, own homes etc.) funded by either the SHA/PCTs. This includes traumatic amputations, hypoxic brain injuries, long-term tracheostomies, maxillo-facial injuries, long term wound care); and,
6) The total annual expenditure (for each of the last five years) by the SHA/PCTs in providing care in the community/specialist hospitals to these patients who suffered from major trauma.
We would be grateful to receive this information from you and/or the relevant PCTs within the geographical coverage of your SHA.
