Venous Thromboembolism

Request

Could you provide a copy of the East Midlands SHA policy for the prevention of Venous Thromboembolism (VTE) in hospitalised patients.

***************************************************************************

Our Response

I can confirm in accordance with S.1 (1) of the Freedom of Information Act 2000 that NHS East Midlands does not hold an overarching policy on the management of Venous Thromboembolism (VTE).

One of the main recommendations from the April 2007 expert working group report for the DH guidance was that all hospitalised patients receive a VTE risk assessment upon admission to hospital.  The commissioning of such interventions is the responsibility of Primary Care Trusts (PCTs) and NHS East Midlands manages and assures the commissioning performance of PCTs.

The following link to our website will provide you with the contact details for Primary Care and Acute Trusts in the East Midlands who will be able to provide you with the information that you require.
