Dear Sir/Madam,

I am writing to ask if you could kindly provide me with the following information from your SHA:

i)                    How much of the centrally allocated multi-professional education and training budget was spent on nurse-related education in a) 2006/7 b) 2007/8 c) 2008/9.

Ideally, I would like the breakdown by subject of the entire MPET budget you received for each of the years above, but failing that, the figure for nursing would suffice.

I refer to your email of 2 April requesting information in respect of the level of MPET budget allocated to nursing and midwifery in the 3 years 2006/7, 2007/8, 2008/9 by NHS East Midlands.

I can confirm in accordance with S.1 (1) of the Freedom of Information Act 2000 that we do hold the information that you have requested which I have included below for your information. 

Post registration nurses and midwives, in common with all non medical professions, will benefit from our Learning Beyond Registration multi-professional programme in 2007/8 and 2008/9, with spends of £3.1m and £6.9m respectively. Whilst, it is not possible to disaggregate the spend on nurses from the other professions within this figure, we would anticipate it forms a substantial proportion

Please note that the financial figure for 2006/7 was compiled from the pre merger accounts from the two former Deaneries in the East Midlands (Trent and Leicestershire, Northamptonshire and Rutland) and the organisations did follow different accounting systems and formats. This merger occurred in 2007.
